Viscose Knits

What is it?

  • Viscose (also called viscose rayon) is a name for a type of bio-based textile made from regenerated cellulous fiber using a wet-spin process. Viscose fabric is a part of the rayon family (All fabrics manufactured with cellulose (from bamboo, plant or tree pulps) are collectively called rayon).
  • The Viscose fabrics we offer are made from Bamboo fiber, although they differ in texture from the Bamboo fabrics due to different methods of processing the bamboo pulp.
  • Bamboo Viscose is considered ecofriendly, as the primarily source is naturally regenerative.

What is the fabric like?

  • Like other fabrics in the rayon family viscose is soft, smooth, cool, comfortable, and highly absorbent, but they do not insulate body heat, making them ideal for use in hot and humid climates.
  • Clothing made from viscose are skin-friendly and have the appearance of cotton or wool. Our Viscose knits are blended with Lycra(1) for better stretch.

Modal Knits

What is it?

  • Modal knits are a bio-based textile made from cellulose fiber by spinning reconstituted cellulose from beech trees. Modal is also a part of the rayon family (All fabrics manufactured with cellulose (from bamboo, plant or tree pulps) are collectively called rayon).
  • Using cellulose from beech trees allows the fabric to be more eco-friendly. Beech trees are soil enhancers, breed naturally and do not need artificial irrigation.
  • Modal is a biodegradable fabric.

What is the fabric like?

  • Like other types of rayon, Modal is soft, smooth and breathes well. It is cool to the touch and very absorbent.
  • Its texture is similar to that of cotton or silk. Modal drapes well and keeps its shape, even when wet.
  • Modal fabrics are resistant to shrinkage, wrinkles and fading. Modal is also less likely to form pills as a result of friction.
  • Its smoothness also makes hard water deposits less likely to adhere to the surface, so the fabric stays soft through repeated washings.
  • When blended with Lycra(1) Modal has good stretch and a soft recovery.

Organic Cotton Knits

What is it?

  • Organic cotton is cotton that has been grown on earth that has been without the use of chemical pesticides and defoliants for at least three years.
  • The sustainable farming practices used to grow organic cotton do not pollute groundwater, surface water, soil, or air. In fact, soil quality is actually improved by the production of organic cotton.
  • Cotton is a natural fiber and is biodegradable.

What is the fabric like?

  • Organic cotton feels softer, smells cleaner, and is less likely to trigger allergies.
  • Like regular cotton fabrics, organic cotton is a good strong fabric that is absorbent, and easy to work with.
  • Cotton has a tendency to wrinkle very easily, so cotton/polyester blends began to be popular, but we prefer to offer the year-round "breathing" and lack of pilling found in our Organic Cotton/Lycra(1) knits.

Cotton Knits

What is it?

  • Cotton textiles are made from the spun fibers of the cotton plant. Cotton is a natural fiber and is biodegradable.
  • When used for apparel fabric cotton is often blended with an elastine, such as LYCRA(1), to give it greater stretch and recovery.

What is the fabric like?

  • Cotton is considered to be friendly to the skin due to its breathability and ability to absorb moisture.
  • This fabric has lots of body and offers little drape. It is more known for its stability. It is great to work with, holds its shape, is absorbent and wears well.
  • Cotton has a tendency to wrinkle very easily, so cotton/polyester blends began to be popular, but we prefer to offer the year-round "breathing" and lack of pilling found in our Cotton/Lycra(1) knits.

Rayon Knits

What is it?

  • Rayon is family of bio-based, manufactured (not synthetic fiber, but not natural fiber) textiles produced from natural raw materials. It is made from regenerated cellulose fibers which can come from a variety of plant or tree pulps.
  • This family includes Acetate, Tencel, Modal and Viscose.

What is the fabric like?

  • Rayon is a very versatile fiber and has the same comfort properties as natural fibers
  • Rayon fabrics are soft, smooth, cool, comfortable, and highly absorbent, but they do not insulate body heat, making them ideal for use in hot and humid climates.
  • The fabric in our Rayon category is a jersey with Lycra(1) giving it good stretch and soft recovery which makes this fabric a comfortable fit.
