Rod Baggett

An alumnus of Nevada Union High School, Choral Director Rodney Baggett is in his 20th year at the school and 28th year overall teaching. He continues the strong musical heritage for which Nevada Union has been known throughout California. Mr. Baggett believes a foundation of classical music trains students in musical excellence in all genres.

He received his music degree and training from San Francisco State University. Before coming to Nevada Union High in 1996, Mr. Baggett taught choral music for eight years in the Sacramento area. During his 21 years of choral directing, Mr. Baggett’s choirs have consistently received superior ratings at a number of choral festivals. He has traveled with choirs to Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, Mexico, Italy, England, Scotland, Ireland, Greece, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.

Mr. Baggett conducts seven different choirs at Nevada Union High School. The choirs range from beginning and intermediate to advanced choral ensembles, consisting of approximately 200 students. All the choirs consistently receive superior ratings from adjudicators at numerous California State Music Festivals. His choirs are well known in Northern California and especially in the Nevada City and Grass Valley area. They perform frequently at community functions and offer a variety of concerts to the public. In 2005 Mr. Baggett was awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the California Music Educators Association.
